These fans are installed inline with the ducting. Smaller fans can be installed within the roof cavity while larger inline fans can be roof-mounted. A powerful fan creates a suction which pulls air into a carefully positioned intake. The air is then pulled through the ducting by the inline fan to be expelled outside.

What is an upblast exhaust fan?

Usually configured with a rangehood and flue, these fans are mounted on the roof outside. The powerful fan creates a suction pulling air from inside up into the rangehood and flue before expelling it outside.
